Catching up! Broken Lace Concept shoot with makeup artist Tamsen Rae!

4 Apr

Hey again everyone!

Still catching up and cleaning out my files! Again forgive me if I accidentally repeat photos.

So this was a concept collaboration shoot that I did awhile back with the wonderful and talented makeup artist Tamsen Rae! It was a super cold day and we lucked out with an amazing location AND amazing model Daisa Mapiour who was totally a great sport in the cold Saskatchewan winter weather.  Tamsen did amazing things with the makeup for this shoot and it was her makeup concept 100%! We combined it with one of my vintage pieces and decided it looked quite fab with some skinny jeans! So fortunate to work with such beautiful and amazing people, sometimes I can’t believe this is my job and how blessed I am!

Here are some of the shots from that winter shoot 🙂

Catching up! Gorgeous friend & makeup artist!

2 Apr

Well as I said, I am catching up and hoping there are no repeats! If there are, just ignore me haha 🙂

So one night after one of our photo sessions my friend and makeup artist Tamsen Rae decided we were just going to play around with my lighting. We had a lot of fun and these are some of the shots from that night 🙂

Catching up! A twist on the Red Riding Hood story… East Indian style!

2 Apr

Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a great weekend! Mine was great, I got a lot done! I also met with yet another couple who booked their wedding with me for 2013! I am getting super excited about next year and looking forward to another crazy wonderful summer of weddings!

So I am going through my computer and trying to get it all cleared out and cleaned up for the big wedding season ahead. I am playing catch up with some of my posts and hopefully nothing gets repeated 🙂 So this was another fabulous shoot with makeup done by the talented and amazing Tamsen Rae, and beautiful Avanti who just did such an awesome job with this shoot and also in working with my mom’s beautiful German Shepherd “Bob”. It was super cold and shots were done quickly so I am really happy with how everything turned out! Thanks again to Avanti for providing this gorgeous Sari used in the shoot. This was my take on the Red Riding Hood story with an East Indian twist!

What every artist MUST have, and how to manage/downsize your magazine collection!

30 Mar

Good morning everyone!

I hope you all have had a fabulous week! Myself, I have had a week with some ups and downs, and also some major accomplishments! The weekend is here, and I am feeling great. . . maybe it’s time to take a possible road trip!

So being a busy mom, sometimes it’s not always possible to emerge myself in a good book. So I started buying magazines religiously! Magazines are easy to read, a fast read, and have really great tips/advice, and stories for everyone. Some of my favorite magazines are Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, Women’s Health, Budget Traveler, Conde Nast Traveler, National Geographic, and Top Gear UK. Over a year I probably am left with close to 100 magazines of all kinds and it gets to a point where they are taking up a lot of room and it looks cluttered!

Years ago I started a system of down-sizing my magazines! I basically made one HUGE magazine with no ads and all my favorite articles, tips, advice, etc. As a photographer and artist, inspiration is also very important to me, so I started making inspiration books! Hair & makeup styles/tips/how to’s as well as inspirational photography and poses.  I can honestly say I practically have a book on every subject now and I can get right to the articles I need and want because it’s custom made for me!

All you need is your stacks of magazines, binders, sheet protectors (about $10 for 80 at Walmart), scissors, and some spare time! Simply rip out your most favorite pages from each magazine, organize and sort into categories and cut along the edge of the page for a nice clean look (OR if in a hurry don’t!). Put the pages in sheet protectors and then slip them into your categorized binders! Instantly you have a handy book with everything you need and want to read about. No ads, no mess. I love doing this for cookbooks as well, because the sheet protectors make it easy to remove a page and any food splatter during cooking can be easily wiped off the sheet protector.

If you want to go that additional mile (haha as I do!), I love to take clippings and recover the binders with little scraps and some tape. It just looks really great! I make my own family cookbooks this way too, with a small scrapbook or sketch pad and hand write all of my recipes inside. It makes for a great gift and you can customize the photos and clips you use to recover it!

Anyway, I get a lot of people either making fun of me for these books haha or complimenting me for them, so I thought I would share!

I hope everyone has a great Friday!!!

xoxo – Martine

Runaway Bride – Vintage Concept Bridal Photoshoot .. sneak peek!!!!

13 Mar

Hey everyone!

Well I am up late editing….yet again! I have to say I had a really great weekend with the boys and even discovered some amazing new locations for photoshoots with them! I can’t wait to put them to use 🙂

So yesterday was AMAZING!! I had another chance to work with the amazing Tamsen Rae who did the makeup for two beautiful models Ally Voronova & Tori Painchaud. I also got the chance to meet a really wonderful talented hair-stylist Chantelle Taksas who floored me with her unique designs and hair creations! The girls looked awesome! And so I finally got to use a couple of the gorgeous vintage wedding dresses that I collect and accessorized with some cute vintage shoes and gloves! Exciting!!!! We took a little road trip..all of us slightly starving and cold, and we had some fun. At the end of it, I ended up with hives, and got home to realize that my fly had probably been undone for the entire shoot. Good times. ha!

Anyway I am really excited to share a few of the photos with you! Watch for more soon to come!

Egyptian Goddess Concept Photography!

26 Feb

Hi Everyone!
Well I am back from taking photos of a beautiful baby girl! It is so exciting for me to be able to capture everything from engagement, wedding and then to celebrate with them for maternity photos and now baby photos! Wonderful to see my clients so in love and making beautiful families. 🙂

I wanted to post a little preview of a shoot I did awhile back with three GORGEOUS sisters… I was so pleased with how all of the colors and the whole attire turned out! I ended up bringing in jewelery from  Egypt and it could not have been more beautiful and authentic! I don’t know where I will ever use them again, but I am sure I will find a use for them somehow!! Makeup was done by the wonderful and talented friend and makeup artist Jennilee Cardinal-Schultz!

So just a few quick photos to share with you! Feedback is always appreciated! 🙂

Much love – Martine

P.S: Something wonky is going on with my WordPress account…my latest posts are NOT showing up on my homepage, and some of my posts are very very far down from where my post titles are..I apologize for that! I have written to WordPress and I hope they get back to me soon!
