Mexican Cemeteries Are Gorgeous!

11 Feb

Don’t ask me why, but I have this weird fascination with Mexican cemeteries… I think they are just breath-taking! This was the cemetery in Playa Del Carmen, and I just found it peaceful, beautiful & unique. I tried to explain to my friend that in our cemeteries here there are no colors, no personal headstones that are hand-crafted colorful little houses and we also don’t have a celebration like they do on November the 2nd. They embrace death as a natural part of life and a beautiful thing..something to celebrate. ♥

I will be uploading more as I am going through them! Just wanted to share a couple of these with you, I am still so in awe of the colors and all the beauty of the Mexican cemetery.

Back from Destination Wedding Mexico!

8 Feb

Hi everyone!

I am still pumped with adrenaline from my amazing time in Mayan Riviera, Mexico!  My clients David & Iza Parker had a dream wedding on Grand Sunset Princess Resorts, and we were able to do our photos in multiple locations, including another resort. I have to say my clients went above and beyond what was expected to make my experience in Mexico absolutely spectacular and I will never forget their generosity or friendship.  The highlights of my trip (aside from the wedding) was zip-lining across the jungle, ATV’ing through caves and visiting the ancient Ruins of Mayan and Tulum. Everything was unreal beautiful and the people were so welcoming and friendly.  I met lots of new and exciting friends, and just soaked up every moment of my trip.  I was afraid to close my eyes for a second, that I might miss something. Everything was gorgeous, like a dream come true.  The very favorite part of my trip is one that I will share with you all soon, as I have many stories about my experience in Mexico and I am excited to share them with you!

At the end of it all, I am happy to be back home with my little troop of boys who I missed dearly!

In the meantime here is a little sneak peek sample of David & Iza’s wedding photos!!

**Model qualities that are a must!**

13 Jan

Hi everyone!
As always I have a very busy and exciting year ahead of me! I am so excited about fulfilling some of the project shoots I have been planning this year as well! I have a variety of different concepts which require different models and I am happy to meet new aspiring models as well. 🙂

A great model must have certain qualities that will be the difference between a beautiful photo and an extraordinary beautiful photo. Here are some of the qualities you MUST have to apply for my casting calls:

1. Beauty is essential to being a model, but it runs more than skin deep. You must have confidence, poise and a beautiful temperament and good attitude as well.

2. You must WANT to be photographed. I myself hate being photographed and am not necessarily photogenic. It is important that you enjoy being photographed and that you are excited & confident to get in front of the camera

3. You must be willing to get creative and step outside of the box. Try new and unique poses, and know how to move your body & face in a way that is flattering to you. Practicing in front of a mirror will help greatly with this! Standing there and looking pretty is just not going to bring forth the type of extraordinary image I am looking for.

4. You must be a professional and treat the photographer with respect and professionalism as well.

5. You must be willing to brave the conditions: What I mean by this; have you ever watched America’s Top Model? Models are put in uncomfortable conditions all of the time and must learn to work well through any circumstance. This means braving the Saskatchewan winter weather with grace and ease, holding a difficult pose and making it look easy and flawless, and exuding confidence in the dingiest or most undesirable of locations.

6. You must WANT to be published! You must be willing to sign a model release form that allows me to distribute your images for publishing. You must want your image to be seen by the world and the world to see YOU.

7. You MUST have good posture. I shouldn’t need to constantly correct someone on the importance of standing straight, shoulders back, tummy tucked in. Good posture can make or break a photograph, and it also takes off the ten pounds that the camera adds.

8. You must be a good actress/actor. A big part of concept photography for me, is not just portraying an image, it’s about telling a story, showing an emotion, leaving viewers with an intrigue … wanting to know more.

9. You must be healthy!! I am not looking to photograph anorexic models. Whether you are voluptuous & shapely or slender & petite, healthiness SHOWS in your photographs. A person who takes good care of themselves will have healthy skin, healthy hair and a healthy body confidence.

10. You must know how to smile, naturally! A smile can take 5 years off of a person’s age easy. A GENUINE natural smile, can take up to 15 years off of your age. So have fun, and learn how to genuinely smile, let yourself laugh and be yourself.

**** I WILL BE POSTING CASTING CALLS IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. MODELS OF ALL AGES INCLUDING CHILD MODELS ARE NEEDED FOR CONCEPT PHOTOGRAPHY SESSIONS. ALL MODELS WILL RECEIVE A DVD WITH ALL OF THEIR PHOTOS IN HIGH RESOLUTION FOR THEIR PORTFOLIO USE******

The first post on a brand new blog!

13 Jan

Hi Everyone!
I know I have another WordPress blog out there which has been sorely neglected and untouched for months maybe even a year, so I felt compelled to make a fresh start with a new blog. My goal this year is to keep it as up to date as possible and also act as an additional source that clients can contact me through.

To start I would love to tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Martine Sansoucy and I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada. Typically it’s one of the coldest places to live in the winter time, but this winter has been surprisingly lovely with plenty of opportunities for outdoor photo sessions! I have three little boys who are the center of my universe and keep me insanely busy. I love them with all my heart and they are also my very favorite people to photograph.

My favorite type of photography is definitely concept photography, travel photography and wedding photography (particularly Destination Wedding Photography).  Photography for me, is not just portraying an image, it’s about telling a story, showing an emotion, leaving viewers with an intrigue … wanting to know more.  I am most interested in photos that are scenic & artistic or candid journalistic style photos.  I love sad beautiful, ethereal portraits and I am constantly being inspired by the people and places around me.

So for a first post I wanted to post this link to a fantastic message about the value of photography and what it means to have photos in your home and part of your lives. I hope you will take the time to read this and appreciate the sadness as a reminder that not everything lasts forever, but your images will.

I will be posting a couple of messages after this one is posted just to get caught up to date with my Tumblr blog http://martinesansoucy.tumblr.com
